I live in Kidderminster (Worcestershire) am a completely self taught artist and I have miniature paintings in private collections all around the world.
Like many people I was pretty good at painting and drawing when I was at school, oh dear how many years ago was that!
I can remember my teacher coming along to see my parents when he found out I wanted to leave at the age of 15, but was to no avail I wanted to get out and get a job.
I've had a few jobs, but most of my working life I have been a self employed milkman, this gave me the time to experiment with many many hobbies, I was always the talk of family and friends, always wondering what I'd be doing next!
I got into painting seriously in the eighties and before I knew it I was soon selling a lot of my work, commissions steadily coming in, gosh i was busy, I even did a one man exhibition at Droitwich Library, 44 paintngs and much to my surprise I sold quite a lot of them, commissions played a bit part, portraits of houses being the most popular.
Then one day back in around the year 2000 a friend asked me to paint a picture for her dolls house, she can't be serious I first though, but she was and I did it and then I did more and more and more, what a fascinating challenge these small scenes became, I started selling them on ebay and that is basically where my involvement in miniatures began, as I write this in 2010 I have sold to date approximately 2,000 miniature paintings.
One of my early problems was finding a quality frame, so many imported frames were and are still available, but as some of my work commanded quite high prices I set myself a challenge of making a quality frame, I have sold several thousand frames so they can't be too bad.
